ASUS recommends Windows 10 Pro. Products certified by the Federal Communications Commission and Industry Canada will be distributed in the United States and Canada. Please visit the ASUS USA and ASUS Canada websites for information about locally available products. Your computer may have a recovery partition. Is it shown in Disk Managment? I do not know if it works for Windows 8 but Asus says to press F9 at boot to get to the factory reset option.

your product key should be injected on your BIOS, you can download from the media tool and make a clean installation and skip the activation process, and windows will be activated within the next two days

As opposed to just making a recovery disk from what we've already downloaded?

On UEFI systems (virtually every computer made since 2009, and some older than that) Windows10 will store certificates in the BIOS that identify the machine as an activated system for the version of Windows 10 (Home or Professional) that you have installed. This is a feature of UEFI.

On non-UEFI systems (mostly only computers older than 2008 or 2009) the product will reactivate based on stored motherboard information with Microsoft.

You can do a clean install by booting the machine up from an installation flash key or DVD. Just leave the product key empty if you are prompted for one during setup. On non-UEFI systems Windows will automatically reactivate after checking with Microsoft's server. This can take a couple of days. UEFI systems should be automatically activated immediately, but again could take a day or two since the OS may validate the certificate with Microsoft.

It would, however, definitely be preferable to make the recovery media and use that. (If you can get Windows to make the media in the first place!)

Hi like many I have lost access to my recovery partition on my G75VW after updating to Win 8.1. It appears to still be there and healthy but I have exhausted most of the online threads and still cannot access it. Also cannot get Backtracker to work. Wondering if anyone out there has a usable factory image that they could send me to dmose81980@gmail.com. I would appreciate immensely. Alternatively if anyone has any ideas as to how to access partition, would love to hear that also. Thanks very much
