The EA Sports F1 games were a series of racing simulation videogames based on Formula One motorsport. Six games were released between 2000 and 2003. They were published by Electronic Arts although unlike many other sports covered under the EA Sports banner, were not developed in-house. They were instead developed by Image Space Incorporated on the PC, a company who would later go on to make rFactor using an updated version of the engine produced for this series, and Visual Science, who handled the console versions.
Gameplay[edit]
The Formula One games have a variety of 'driving aids' options that can be tailored to the users' own tastes. Thus, in terms of car handling, the game can play either as an arcade racer or a driving simulation. The game also has a bunch of hidden options. Any experimented user could activate these and optimize vehicle physics for a better racing simulation experience.
F1 Challenge '99-'02[edit]
After losing the official F1 license from Formula One Administration Ltd. to a multi-year exclusive licensing contract between FOA and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (publishers of the competing Formula One series on PlayStation/PlayStation 2) in late 2002 that became active starting from the 2003 season thus barring any developer, EA included, to make a game centered around these later seasons, the decision was made to produce one final game using the four seasons that EA Sports had previously licensed.
Because of the progressing potential of the game engine, several assets were re-imagined in order to make them more realistic than ever before as well as making the game more adaptable for less powerful PCs. The car models and associated textures were rebuilt from scratch, whilst the physics engine was significantly improved over prior releases to provide a simulation that was critically lauded. In order to provide a more authentic simulation, every track received minor changes for each season covered, including sponsor boards (barring tobacco and alcohol advertising) as well as external visual changes.

The modding capabilities of F1C, as it is occasionally referred to by its dedicated modding community, are extensive and since the game's release in 2003, has gone on to cover many different seasons of Formula One racing, as well as being able to simulate racing series outside of Formula One such as Le Mans Prototypes and NASCAR, among many others. This is due in part to the use of simple text files for several important game asset parameters such as the physics, cars, drivers, and tracks which has allowed the game to flourish on various online communities long since its release.
F1 2002 was a nominee for PC Gamer US's '2002 Best Racing Game' award, which ultimately went to NASCAR Racing 2002 Season.[1]
The editors of Computer Gaming World nominated F1 Challenge for their 2003 'Racing Game of the Year' award, which ultimately went to Need for Speed: Underground.[2] It was also a nominee for PC Gamer US's 2003 'Best Racing Game' award, but lost to NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. The magazine's editors called F1 Challenge 'the PC's most rewarding open-wheel driving experience since Grand Prix: Legends.[3]

F1 Challenge '99-'02
After losing the official F1 license from Formula One Administration Ltd. to a multi-year exclusive licensing contract between FOA and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (publishers of the competing Formula One series on PlayStation/PlayStation 2), ISI developed their final release hitting stores in 2003. Showcasing four full seasons of Formula 1 from 1999 to 2002, many people thought it would be a type of compilation of all the games previously made by ISI but in fact the title turned into a cult following platform for both modders and sim racers. Before this release ISI often tended to make mistakes at the time of modeling the tracks, cars and sounds. ISI listened to the fans and fixed almost every single aspect from previous versions, most noticeable was the sound which proved to be the most realistic to date, it was later improved in 2004 in a 3rd party mod release; Also the cars models were changed and made from scratch for this release to make them more realistic. Track versions were created specifically for each season resembling the real circuits.
The use of simple text files for track, drivers and cars physics parameters lead to gradually make F1C, as it is known, into a powerful 3D racing platform which saw from year 2003 onwards the release of mods from independent developers who posted their work for free in their web sites tuning not only cars physics but circuit physics and of course release every time track dependent liveries and 3D models for the cars.
Modifications
The EA Sports F1 series was based around various known standards, such as text files for storing player data and an industry known format for circuit geometry. Many extra circuits were created for the series, especially F1 Challenge '99-'02 (often shortened to F1 Challenge or even F1C). The complete 2003 European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) was released for free, as well as one Gran Turismo game released commercially. There were also mods in the «RH» (Ralph Hummerich) series for the following seasons, RH2003, RH2004 and RH2005. All three were released for F1 Challenge. Another mod group which also have done F1 seasons for F1 Challenge '99-'02 is the CTDP group (Cars and Tracks Development Project). These are the biggest «rivals» for the RH Modifications as they appear to develop the game as well as update it. EA Sports F1 series Free Download PC Game.
Going back in time, F1 Challenge also served as the basis for the freely available «F1 '74 '75 Mod» developed by a modding team called CREW. It provided a simulation of the numerous F1 cars of 1974 and 1975, including the championship-winning McLaren M23 and Ferrari 312T. Other great mods are the CK mods and the 1971 carset.
In August 2011 a free full mod named F1 XT 2010 Final, which was created by XiatStudio Modding Group, all the cars were converted from rFactor mod F1 RFT 2010. This mod contains all full 2010 seasons F1 cars and 19 tracks. Later, XiatStudio released patch of «Test Driver Mode», enables players to drive on test driver's cars.
Currently the best known and used is the FIRe, consisting of 27 seasons of Formula 1 and a «Championship of Legends» to all who were champions from 1988 to 2014.
The first mod in the game with all seasons (1950—2015) «F1 Challenge VB» from Italy is available. It's features include hundreds of drivers, tracks used in every season of the Formula One World Championship, as well as other race tracks used in the CART, Indycar and V8 Supercars series. It can be played in ten different languages, including English. EA Sports F1 series Download Torrent.
